IPL for rosacea at the Bonn Aesthetics Laser Center
Rosacea can be distressing. Reddened skin, enlarged veins and inflammation can drastically reduce self-confidence. Our treatment option: Lumecca, a modern IPL system for significant improvements after just a few sessions. Also suitable for sensitive skin.
Lumecca against rosacea
Lumecca is based on Intense Pulsed Light (ILP). The mechanism of action: selective photothermolysis! Very high light energy is generated in milliseconds – with which we can reduce and often even completely remove skin spots, dilated blood vessels, signs of skin ageing, sun damage and redness.
The big advantage: the surrounding tissue is spared and the regeneration time is very short. In many cases, visible effects can be seen after the first session. The result is usually permanent.

What is rosacea?
Rosacea is a chronic, inflammatory skin disease that mainly affects the face. Typical signs can include persistent redness, visible blood vessels (so-called telangiectasias) and occasional inflammatory pustules and nodules. The disease often occurs in episodes and is exacerbated by various factors such as stress, UV radiation, spicy foods or alcohol. Women are affected slightly more often than men.
The aim of the Lumecca treatment at the Bonn Aesthetics Laser Center is to alleviate the symptoms, significantly reduce redness and visibly improve the skin structure in the long term – without damaging the sensitive skin barrier.
How Lumecca IPL works:
The wavelengths of light in Lumecca address specific structures, such as melanin and hemoglobin in the skin. The surrounding tissue is hardly affected. This means that the treatment is gentle on the skin and has few side effects. At the Bonn Laser Center, we use this procedure to treat rosacea as well as couperose, spider veins, hemangiomas, pigmentation and unwanted hair growth.
The individual session is usually short, so there is no need to worry about downtime. The ideal interval between individual treatments is three to four weeks – this can vary depending on the condition of the skin.
Areas of application and effects
Lumecca can be tailored precisely to the treatment of rosacea and your skin condition. The treatment goals: 1. significant improvement in redness, dilated veins, inflammation and pustules. 2. a long-term improvement in the overall appearance of the skin.
Redness and vascular changes
Redness and dilated veins on the face are common symptoms of rosacea. We use focused light energy to reduce these without affecting the neighboring “healthy” tissue. The effect affects the typical vasodilatation and reddened patches of skin, for example after pustules have healed. The result is a visibly smoother complexion.
Improvement of the complexion
In addition to reducing vascular changes, treatment with Lumecca ensures a stronger and generally rejuvenated skin structure. The light energy activates the production of skin-tightening collagen and elastin. As a result, the skin appears more radiant, smoother and fresher overall. As natural regeneration is stimulated, imperfections, spots, slight inflammation and fine wrinkles are also reduced.
Long-term results
The results are usually lasting and sustainable. Often after just one treatment series of three to four sessions. The individual skin condition and the severity of the symptoms are decisive. A sufficiently long interval between sessions is important. This gives the skin the necessary time for renewal and regeneration.
Questions & Answers
How does the Lumecca technology differ from other IPL systems?
Lumecca is characterized by a particularly high energy intensity and precision. We can treat dilated fine vessels and redness (including skin redness after inflammation) efficiently. The surrounding skin is spared. Compared to conventional or cosmetic IPL, we usually need fewer sessions and achieve visible and noticeable results more quickly.
At the Bonn Laser Center, we use Lumecca to improve rosacea, couperose, acne and other skin problems such as pigmentation disorders. An additional area of application is skin rejuvenation in combination with other complementary treatments.
Is the treatment of rosacea with IPL (Lumecca) unpleasant?
Most of our patients at the Bonn Aesthetics Laser Center find treatment with Lumecca to be virtually painless. What may occur is a brief tingling sensation and a slight feeling of warmth. Both can generally be tolerated well. If desired and required, we apply a cooling gel before the treatment, which further increases comfort.
Should I expect side effects?
Side effects can occur with all applications, whether cosmetic or medical. These are often desirable and a sign that the skin is beginning to regenerate. This is also the case with Lumecca and the treatment of rosacea. Shortly after the session, the skin may be slightly reddened, similar to after a sunburn. Red or dark skin areas and spots will initially become slightly darker in the days following the treatment and then paler as the treatment progresses. Use a strong sunscreen.
My skin is sensitive due to rosacea. Is treatment with Lumecca still possible?
Yes, the treatment is designed in such a way that we can even use it on very sensitive skin. At the Bonn Aesthetics Laser Center, we adapt the settings individually to your skin and your specific needs. It is very gentle – with maximum efficiency and effect at the same time.
Can I resume my everyday life immediately after treatment at the Laser Center Bonn?
Yes, this is almost always possible. The treatment of rosacea with Lumecca does not require any prolonged downtime. However, we recommend protecting the skin well in the first few days after the session, especially from direct sunlight. A suitable sun cream with a high protection factor is essential. Special skin care products or a soothing mask may also be helpful. We will be happy to advise you on this in advance of your treatment at our practice in Bonn.
